Centennial Stories: Uncovering Herstories/ Histories of the Hawaiʻi Library Association

When libraries or library associations reach their centennial, they usually roll out happy stories of their growth and development with an uncritical lens. However, to celebrate the Hawaiʻi Library Association’s centennial, formed a Centennial Committee that is helping members research their own herstories/histories, including not only the pioneers who moved to the Territory of Hawaiʻi and created our libraries and association, but also the diverse pioneers who were able to decolonize these American institutions and shape them into create collections and information systems that serve Kanaka Maoli, and Hawaiʻi’s diverse communities. We invite you to hear abstracts from these works in progress, as we gain insight on how librarianship is changing.
